Handmade Silk Flapper Button with Bells Miniature
A Miniature Version of the “Silk Flapper Button with Bells”
The bells were inspired by rare bell 1920s silk flapper buttons. The face design of this button was recreated from a rare antique celluloid flapper button set.
Entirely hand assembled and painted. Made out of 100% silk. A safety pin is included with every button so they can be worn as a brooch.
Jillian Rae uses 100% silk to be as historically accurate as possible. The natural fabric gives the buttons a more authentic feel and gives off a beautiful pearly sheen.
This button is inspired by silk flapper buttons sold in the 1920s that usually adorned ladies' garters/undergarments. Original antique flapper buttons are very rare and amazing pieces of women's material culture history.
Jillian Rae’s art pieces focus on bringing handmade items with "visual human touch" back to life~ every handmade characteristic of her art is intentional (every visible hand stitch and knot, unique "imperfect" painted faces, etc.) and aims to reproduce the same qualities seen in antique novelty items/ephemera. Every design choice is inspired by a real antique item, including color schemes and the natural materials they were made out of (primarily silk in flapper novelty items). Jillian Rae wishes to continue the legacy of decorative human-made items with her reproductions while staying as close to the originals as possible.
