Inspired by handmade 1920s flapper powder puffs~ novelty products created to adorn the boudoir tables of “modern women.”
Entirely handmade with 100% Mulberry silk, marabou feathers, powder puff, and a handmade silk flapper button. This piece was entirely hand stitched with vintage cotton thread, including the hand sewn feathers. No glue was used in the hand assembly process, intended to pay homage to the natural materials used in handmade antiques. Visible stitches are always intentional in Jillian Rae’s art as she strives to show “human touch” as is commonly seen in women’s historical material culture.
This powder puff can be used, but cleaning the soiled puff would require attention. Water should not come into contact with the silk, as it can put the silk in a delicate state and damage the puff's construction. Historically, these novelty powder puffs seem to have been rarely, if ever, used and were more of a novelty decoration.
