Hand Sewn Blue Silk Bralette

$350.00

Made out of 100% mulberry silk, antique French cotton lace, 100% silk double face satin ribbon straps, hand-sewn ribbon-work flower made out of silk double face satin (middle flower), silk rosettes made out of 100% mulberry silk (underneath the front straps), and vintage metal hook and eye closures. No glue was used in the hand assembly process, intended to pay homage to the natural materials used in handmade antiques. Visible stitches are always intentional in Jillian Rae’s art as she strives to show “human touch” as is commonly seen in women’s historical material culture.

This piece is labeled “J.R. 6” hand painted on a silk ribbon attached inside.

Jillian Rae was inspired by early antique bralettes of the 1920s and 30s. Many women of the new modern era made their new and exciting tiny undergarments at home, giving the surviving pieces a beautiful handmade look with visible stitches and characteristics that show their focus on basic wearability instead of mass-produced perfection. Jillian’s bralettes were specifically inspired by rare 1920s/30s novelty bralettes that were very “itty bitty.” They were not made for functionality or even coverage. They were delicate, feminine, and very risqué even by today’s standards.

Jillian Rae’s textile art is not intended to be seen as “products.” Her textile art strives to pay homage to “the average woman’s” role in fashion history in construction, materials, and designs. These bralettes are just as delicate as their historical inspirations and are not intended for everyday use. They are novelty decorative items that must be treated with care if one decides to wear them.

Strap Length: 7.5”

Bralette Width: 34.5” (the 2 hook and eyes are at 33.5” and 34.5”)

Cup Length (the vertical measurement): 4.25” including the lace
